Being fit and healthy is more popular than ever in today's health-conscious society. Despite being trendy, many men and women in our country still find it hard to shed unwanted pounds. They stick to a healthy diet and go to the gym on a regular basis but still aren't able to achieve the weight loss results they crave. They notice stubborn fat deposits around areas like the arms, stomach, and neck. These fatty areas are undoubtedly unsightly, but also a potential sign that serious health issues may be present, like heart disease.
If you're nodding your head in agreement as you read this, take it as a sign that it's time to address your weight problems. Because, if we're being honest, obesity is a major problem in the U.S. - according to research from the NIH, over 30% of people are obese in the U.S. Obese men and women are at a greater risk of severe issues, including:
In the past, short-sighted people would say, "Stop complaining and stop eating. You'll lose weight." To help you understand the true benefits of seeing our weight loss doctors, it's important you first understand what obesity is and what causes it to affect so many Americans.
When you become a member of our weight loss clinic in Heritage Glen, GA, you'll learn quickly that obesity is a multifaceted disease. It's most often characterized by the accumulation of excessive body fat. Though it's typically characterized as a cosmetic concern, it's actually a serious medical problem that increases your risk of severe health complications. Often, obese individuals find it challenging to shed weight due to environmental, genetic, and physiological factors.
Our FDA-approved program includes:
Lack of sleep can have negative impacts on your body as it can lead to increased appetite and hormonal changes, ultimately causing obesity. It's very important that you get enough sleep to maintain your well-being, and by proxy, your weight.
Some hormone problems, as well as certain medications, can lead to weight gain. This includes conditions like an underactive thyroid, Cushing syndrome, and polycystic ovary syndrome, as well as medications like antidepressants, corticosteroids, and seizure medications.
Popular beverages like beers and sodas are chock-full of liquid calories that never fill you up. Mix in dehydration from lack of water and a poor diet, and you've got an equation that almost always equals obesity.
We live in a day and time where stress from work and from life is a prevalent as obesity. When you're stressed, it's easy to give in and consume unhealthy foods like candies and burritos. While doing so can give you a short spike of dopamine, it won't last. Eating sweets and fast foods is one of the worst ways to deal with stress.
Studies indicate that genetics can influence the development of obesity. In fact, certain genetic disorders, such as Prader-Willi syndrome, can lead directly to obesity. Genes may also make some individuals more susceptible to weight gain. However, researchers believe that other factors, such as a sedentary lifestyle or a diet rich in calorie-dense foods, are also necessary for a person to become overweight.
If you aren't very active on a daily basis, chances are you're eating more calories than your body is able to burn off. With the advent of smart devices and other popular entertainment options, living a sedentary life is more common than ever.
This one is a no-brainer. If you only eat greasy burgers and carb-packed foods, you'll continue to gain weight.
When you quit smoking, your body can literally breathe a breath of fresh air. However, quitting cigarettes and nicotine can also cause weight fluctuations. When left to spiral out of control, it can lead to obesity.
Many obese Americans are shamed daily for how they look. It never feels good to be made fun of or stared at, but obese people have more to worry about than what others think. They are at risk for several fatal or long-term health issues. Many of those issues are among the leading causes of death in the U.S. Generally, the more you weigh, the greater chance you have of developing bad and even fatal complications such as:
If you have one or more of the symptoms or conditions listed above, don't get too down on yourself. You're not destined to live an unhealthy life. When you choose medical weight loss help from a clinic like Innovative Health and Wellness, you can turn your life around and steer it toward a path of positivity and productivity.
When you're obese and learn that you're at risk for major health events like heart attacks and strokes, it can make you anxious and want to lose weight ASAP. Unfortunately, many overweight people turn to fad diets and "lose weight quick" programs.
If you were to ask a random person on the street to name a trendy diet, they could probably name one, past or present. Diets like Paleo, South Beach Atkins, and Keto are well-known to most people. However, the issue with these diets is that they may not work for everyone, and even when they do, the outcomes are not always long-lasting.
Some common characteristics of unhealthy fad diets include:
Maintaining a healthy weight is a positive habit that can keep you happy and fit. However, weight loss isn't just about fitting into old clothes from college or looking good on a date night. It's about feeling better and improving your overall health in the long run. Achieving that goal is where working with a medical weight loss clinic starts to make a lot of sense.
Some additional benefits of choosing a weight loss clinic include:
Although weight loss surgery can be effective, it involves risks and a long recovery period. Can you imagine wanting to lose weight but having to wait weeks or longer to recover from an intense, invasive procedure? Medical weight loss programs - like those at Innovative Health and Wellness - aim to help individuals achieve weight loss goals without the need for surgery. Therefore, medical weight loss programs are designed to provide a safer and less invasive approach to weight loss management.
At Innovative Health and Wellness, we understand that a one-size-fits-all diet doesn't work for everyone and often leads to failure or yo-yo dieting. That's why we offer a personalized weight loss program tailored to your individual needs - not someone who matches your general body type, age, and weight. In fact, we take the time to understand your history and the contributing factors to your unique case, and then we help you develop a healthy diet plan that's best suited for you.
Our weight loss program also includes nutritional counseling to teach you how to make healthy food choices. You'll have access to medical professionals who are there to support you every step of the way, answer any questions, and provide encouragement. With our personalized weight loss program, you can achieve your weight loss goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Losing weight is not just about following a diet plan. It requires a complete change in lifestyle and an active routine. A medical weight loss program can assist you in learning about the best exercises for your body and current physical condition. Having a support system while dieting is crucial, and having an exercise counselor to keep you motivated and on track is often the key to success for those who find it difficult to commit to a workout schedule.
Our medical experts will guide you in understanding which exercises to do, how much and how often. They will also let you know when it's time to adjust your exercise regimen.
Using a weight loss clinic to help you lose weight isn't just effective - it's one of the safest ways to shed lbs., too. Without professional supervision from a weight loss clinician, you run the risk of:
If you're looking to lose weight fast with no diet needed, it might be time to recalibrate your priorities. At Innovative Health and Wellness, our clinicians don't only focus on helping you lose weight. They also address issues related to hormone imbalances, physical therapy, high blood pressure, chiropractic concerns, and overall diet. We're committed to changing your life, one healthy choice at a time.
People who are overweight and wish to start dieting or exercising should be careful not to do so without proper supervision. Without guidance, they may become frustrated, feel defeated, and ultimately either give up or revert to their old habits.
When a doctor supervises a weight loss program, you are more likely to follow the recommended diet and exercise routines because they are tailored to suit your specific needs. Plus, medical professionals do not judge you; they accept you as you are and support and encourage you to increase your chances of success in the program.
Joining Innovative Health and Wellness means reclaiming your life. It is an important decision that you must make soon before your health deteriorates further. If you want to feel and look better and live a life free of obesity, our medical weight loss clinic in Heritage Glen, GA is the perfect place for you.

Glenn and Casey Cox introduce the Flint River like it’s a member of their family. And, in many ways, it is. The river has been the heritage for the many generations of Coxes who’ve farmed and lived along its southwest Georgia banks.
Glenn, 60, is a fifth generation farmer. Casey, 24, is the daughter and only child of Glenn and wife, Tina. And Casey is becoming the sixth generation to farm their branch of the family’s land in Mitchell County, Ga. Right now, the transition is in place. And Glenn says he couldn’t be happier.
“We were not going to make her come home,” says Glenn. “That was first and foremost, but we were always hoping she would. Told her to do whatever she wanted to do. And she has. She went to college, but she knew she could always come back home. She’s done a lot and accomplished a lot more than I had by the time I was her age – a lot more.”
“They really encouraged me to do whatever I wanted to do and never pressured me to come home, but after a couple of months off at college, I realized I had such a special background and place to return to. I didn’t originally plan to farm but just to come back to southwest Georgia,” says Casey, who got her degree in natural resources conservation, a topic dear to both Glenn and Casey.

As she neared the end of her college time, she began to think about farming as a long-term plan and to farm her family land. The local and regional ag community has embraced her decision with encouragement, she said, particularly the local Georgia Farm Bureau.
Glenn says the only time he has really questioned Casey’s decision-making skills is when she chose to get her college degree from the University of Florida over going to his preferred University of Georgia. (But, hey, nobody’s perfect wherever you fall on that slippery Deep South Divide.)
Casey is already a spokesperson for agriculture in the region. She is the executive director of the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District and manages the Flint River Partnership, an agricultural water conservation initiative formed by the Flint River SWCD, USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service and The Nature Conservancy.
After an unexpected administrative change at the Flint River Partnership, Casey took the lead and is now spearheading a USDA Regional Conservation Partnership Program targeted at the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin with 30 partners across Alabama, Florida and Georgia. With the program, USDA will kick in $4 million over the next five years to provide financial and technical assistance to producers and landowners in the ACFR Basin. The goal will be to promote NRCS programs and address water quality and water quantity in the region.
In the Flint River region particularly, the project will focus on increasing agricultural-water-use efficiency on irrigated land with conservation practices and use of precision irrigation methods.
“Like I said, she’s way smarter than I was at her age and smarter than me now,” Glenn said.
Whenever they are given the chance, Glenn and Casey champion agriculture in the region and, especially, the conservation efforts taking place in agriculture, efforts that have been taking place for many years that the general public doesn’t understand about farming.
“Like I’ve said many times, ‘If you take care of the land, the land will take care of you,’ and it has taken care of us for many years. That’s my attitude toward it, and I know it is Casey’s attitude, too,” Glenn said.
The Cox’s farm is called Longleaf Ridge Farms, and gets the name from the 200-plus acres of natural-growth longleaf pines that grow on the property along a ridge overlooking the river. That much natural-growth longleaf pines in one place is rare now, compared to the millions of acres of longleaf pines that once grew throughout the South.
Glenn’s father, C.B. Cox, founded the nearby River Run Plantation in the mid-1950s. Glenn’s operation split from the plantation more than a decade ago, and his brother, Cader, now runs and manages the nationally-recognized quail plantation with his family.
Longleaf Ridge Farm grows sweet corn, field corn, peanuts and soybeans, and all of it is done with commercial profits as the goal but with conservation practices as the means.
“Farming with conservation in mind as much as possible is the way to go and works and is the right thing to do, but it can cost (financially). We have a situation maybe some others do not where we can be a bit more conservation-minded in our approach, but I think that also means we have the responsibility to do so,” Glenn said.
“My father and mother instilled in me stewardship of the land, and my father has farmed his whole life. So, I know you can be both: a good farmer and conservationist. And most farmers are both,” Casey said.
A gopher tortoise found along the edge of a sweet corn field on Longleaf Ridge Farms, owned by Glenn Cox family. Worried about the young reptile, Casey moved her favorite endangered animal off the field road and back into the 200-plus acres of longleaf pines the family owns. The family believes in taking care of the land and its resources.
“She’ll guide the operation to where it needs to go, and she has the opportunity to make it more profitable or even turn it in another direction,” Glenn said.
“I’m learning right now a lot about what goes into to making and growing the crops, the inputs and the technology side of it, and the business side, too,” Casey said.
Casey has financial interest in the operation. “And I know, we’ll always make decisions as a family when it comes to the land,” she said.
Riding around the farm earlier this summer, Casey was driving, and Glenn was sitting in the back seat of the king-cab truck.
“I have full confidence she will be able to handle it, and not just handle it, but make it better,” Glenn said. “In the not-so-distant future, she’ll be in charge. I have no doubt it will be in good hands. It will be her thing and her decisions to make....
“Watch out! Casey, don’t go down that way. Pull along the side here.”
Behind the wheel, Casey rolls her eyes a bit at her father’s sudden advice on driving routes on the farm and approaches. “Is that how you’re going to hand over the responsibilities for the farm? Like your back-seat driving now?”
“Well, I’m always going to have some advice for her,” Glenn said, with a sheepish grin.

FORT MCPHERSON, Ga. -- Fort McPherson and Fort Gillem Garrison Equal Opportunity commemorated National Native American Heritage month by hosting Mrs. Erin Beavers Cochran an educator and public speaker from the Atlanta History Center.
Before the luncheon, the Garrison Chaplain Lt. Col Robert E. Philips read an invocation and an American Indian prayer. Coincidentally the prayer read by the Chaplain was the same one Cochran’s father would say with her as a child.
Introducing the guest speaker was Garrison Commander Col. Deborah B. Grays.
Cochran shared her experiences and gave a short history on Native American Indians in Georgia and how techniques they used in agriculture, irrigation canals and sewer systems used about 1000 years ago are still being used today.
During her presentation, Grays also said “around 1600 the cities of the American Indian were just as advanced as European cities of the same time period.”
Lt. Col. Glenn Gildon from the U.S. Army Forces Command, Command Group came out to the luncheon to celebrate the event in memory of his Grandfather who was 25 percent Native American. Cochran also remarked, “it’s important to recognize diverse cultures and learn from their past and present.”
Cochran also spoke of present day issues in the Native American communities. She said “due to the injustices’ of the past and undesirable conditions during the time of boarding schools many American Indians have had distrust for the American government."
The time American Indians have spent on reservations has also had negative consequences including cultural theft, poverty, alcoholism, poor health care, loss of native language and tribal extinction.
“In or around the last twenty years Native American communities have formed a strong network to combat reservation flight, they don’t want their tribes to go extinct or the kid’s to leave the reservation, schools are teaching the native language, because keeping the language alive is one of the best ways to keep a culture alive” Cochran said.
In the last two years the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has helped to rebuild and improve Native American Schools so they can get a proper education and compete in today’s world. This act has encouraged a return to the reservations, language preservation and has helped curb cultural theft.
Events such as the luncheon help to educate and teach us about the past as well as highlight the future needs and issues of Native American people.
Cochran also stated “advisors are always at the White House working as partners with Native Americans to keep an open dialogue and sustainable healthy native communities moving in a positive direction."
Cochran is passionate about educating the public about Native American history and culture, particularly regarding the Trail of Tears and Indian Boarding Schools.
