Recommended Foods for Healthy Skin

17 Oct 14

It is a given that what you eat directly affects how you feel. It should come as no surprise that what you eat also affects your skin. The saying “you are what you eat” holds true for food replacing your skin cells. Proper diets and clean foods will help to keep your skin looking clear and smooth. The aging process can often be slowed down significantly by following a healthy diet as well as using our non-surgical, BOTOX treatment. Here are a couple of foods that we recommend for getting that clear skin you want:

Strawberries and Blueberries

These two berries are highly saturated with antioxidants. Harmful rays from the sun can damage the surface layer skin cells. The antioxidants protect these skin cells from damage, helping you to keep a clear, healthy tone. This protection helps to fight against the aging process as well.

Walnuts

Walnuts are high in fatty acids which are essential for healthy skin. The fatty acids help to strengthen the membrane in the cells that protect from harmful substances from getting in. The stronger the membrane, the more moisture your cells can hold in making them look full and smooth. Omega 3 and 6 are known to be great fatty acids, also found in some fish.

Olive Oil-Extra Virgin

Healthy oils help the skin to stay nice and lubricated. Extra virgin olive oil is the least processed of all the olive oils, which saves many of the nutrients needed for skin health. Olive oil can substitute butter as a cooking aid or pan greaser.

Whole Wheat Bread

This healthier version of bread contains an important nutrient called selenium.  Research has proven that higher amounts of selenium in your skin cells help to prevent cancer cells from forming. Paired with Vitamin A, it can even reduce the amounts of burned cells from prolonged sun exposure. Eating white breads are more harmful because they can increase insulin levels causing your skin to clog and break out.
